DeSantis Announces One-Month Summer Sales Tax Holiday

TAMPA -- Governor Ron DeSantis announces the state's summer recreation tax holiday during an event at the Tampa Bay History Center.

Last year it ran from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This year it covers the month of July and includes fishing, camping, boating and pool supplies, and several other categories including sunscreen and bug spray. Admission to state parks, museums, movies and live entertainment is also tax-free.

DeSantis says the "Freedom Month" will help both Florida residents and the state's estimated 35 million summer visitors.

The governor also scoffed and snorted when a reporter asked about Florida Democrats' claims that the state is "in play" because of the six-week abortion law that takes effect Wednesday. DeSantis told reporters a 900-thousand-plus registration edge by Republicans plus the shortcomings of the Biden administration will keep Florida red in November.

President Joe Biden visited Tampa last week for a campaign event and Vice President Kamala Harris will do her own in Jacksonville Wednesday.
